(Bismarck, ND) -- A federal court is blocking BNSF workers from striking.

A ruling issued Tuesday granted a temporary restraining order, meaning 17-thousand workers nationwide are prevented from striking. The court said a walkout would cause BNSF "substantial, immediate, and irreparable harm."

The threatened strike stems from a dispute over the company's new attendance policy. The case is expected to be appealed in the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court.
