(Minneapolis, MN) -- The Minneapolis Federation of Teachers is prepared to take a vote on whether the union will strike.

The MFT voted Monday to have members take a strike authorization vote starting February 14th. President of the teachers chapter of the MFT Greta Callahan say the union has been negotiating with the district for two years without a contract.

Sticking points include addressing the mental health crisis in schools, reducing class sizes, controlling special education caseloads, and increasing teacher compensation.

The possible strike would be the first in the district since 1970.
