(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota lawmakers are considering the idea of phasing out lead ammunition.
The move would be an effort to cut back on lead poisoning of wildlife and people who accidentally inject fragments of buck shot or bullets. Democrat Kelly Morrison has drafted a bill that would create a lead bullet buy-back program through the Department of Natural Resources and pay for vouchers to help hunters buy less-toxic ammunition.
Evidence also exists that raptors and other scavenger birds are sickened when accidentally eating lead bullet fragments for game hunting.
