(Minneapolis, MN) -- Minnesotans may have the chance to ditch their physical drivers licenses in favor of a digital replacement.

The opportunity comes from a proposal within the Minnesota Senate written by House Assistant Majority Leader Harin Housley (39, R). The proposal would first conduct a study to see if the option of a "digital driver's license" has safe and secure options. The study would help lawmakers to direct their policy-making decisions moving forward.

Senator Housley says the idea came from needing to replace her own physical drivers license after it was lost at a hockey game. She was told to wait for a replacement, and believed there had to be another option available. She also says phones are so integrated within everyone's lives, digital licenses would simply move that one step forward.
