(St. Paul, MN) -- The Minnesota State High School League is responding to recent racist taunts and harassment at sporting events.
Executive director Erich Martens spoke before the state House Education Policy Committee Monday, detailing plans to address what he called a troubling trend. Martens and executive director of the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals Bob Driver have sent a joint letter to administrators and coaches across the state.
The letter outlines the MSHSL policy allowing officials to suspend athletes engaging in harassment or violence at any sporting event, not just league tournaments. League policy also allows principals to eject spectators for similar behaviors.
