(Bismarck, ND) -- North Dakota officials say there continues to be massive shortage of attorneys serving in rural areas.

A recruitment program began last year in an effort to bring attorneys to rural counties and municipalities. Attorneys who agree to serve rural communities through the program receive a 45-thousand dollar incentive over five years.

State Court Administrator Sally Holewa says serving in rural areas provides an opportunity to practice in a variety of legal capacities.

The Commerce Department considers 39 counties in North Dakota as rural.
