(Minneapolis, MN) -- Leaders of the union representing food service workers at Minneapolis Public Schools say if they can't reach a deal with the district, they will join teachers on the strike line.

The Service Employees International Union Local 284 served the district with a ten-day notice to strike Tuesday. Union leaders are asking for a one-dollar-an-hour raise for each year of their upcoming contract, which the district says it can't afford.

If food workers strike, plans are being made to serve prepared meals to students in need from the picket line.
