(Mahnomen County, MN) -- The Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office is sharing dashcam video of a "shots fired" incident that happened last month.

The video shows Deputy Dakota Czerny and 20-year-old Mahnomen resident Shequoya Deanne Basswood at a traffic stop that happened at March 13th, 2022. Deputy Czerny ordered Basswood and other passengers to place their hands on their vehicle while he was getting more handcuffs from his car. As Czerny was placing handcuffs onto a passenger, he saw a gun was in Basswood's possession, began backing away, drew his gun, and ordered her to drop the gun. The video shows Basswood turning towards Deputy Czerny, cycling the action on the firearm, and pointing the weapon at the deputy. That is when Deputy Czerny fired his weapon and struck Basswood. The video ends shortly afterwards.

Deputy Czerny asked for medical assistance for Basswood at the location. The Sheriff's Office says Deputy Czerny began to give medical assistance as soon as the scene was determined to be safe. You can watch the video by clicking here

Basswood was charged with 2nd Degree Riot - Armed with a Dangerous Weapon, 1st Degree Assault - Great Bodily Harm, and Interfering with a 9-1-1 call.
