(Bismarck, ND) -- The federal government is adjusting reimbursement rates for cattle losses due to April's blizzards.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Security Agency has revised the payment rate for young calves lost in the storms. The blizzards coincided with calving season in North Dakota, leading to the loss of many young calves.

Ranchers lost thousands of dollars due to cattle deaths.

The new reimbursement rate for a young beef calf is nearly 475 dollars, up from 175.
