(Cass County, ND) -- Local authorities are stepping up their enforcement methods with the hope of lowering drug related deaths.

Cass County Sheriff Jessie Jahner appeared in a statement released on the Cass County Facebook Page. In the statement, Jahner said his department, along with his colleagues within the Cass Clay Drug Task Force, will be ramping up preemptive efforts to stop drugs from entering communities in the first place.

"Starting today and moving forward, the Cass County Sheriff's Office, working in collaboration with our other law enforcement partners, are going to take a stronger, proactive approach in trying to reduce our drug related deaths, "Sheriff Jahner said in the statement, "If you are a drug trafficker, trafficking narcotics into Cass County, you can expect that my deputies are going to be out on these highways at different times, doing criminal and drug interdiction."

Jahner says they will continue to improve public safety by locating the drug traffickers themselves, and bringing them to justice. You can see the official statement by clicking here
