Minnesota lawmakers working to codify abortion, child care tax credit

(St. Paul, MN) -- Democratic state lawmakers are working to codify legal abortion in Minnesota.

The Protect Reproductive Options Act is being introduced in both the House and Senate. It would further protect abortion access in the state.

Abortion is currently legal in Minnesota under a 1995 ruling from the state's Supreme Court.

In the meantime, Democratic state lawmakers are also prioritizing a child care tax credit this legislative session.

The expanded credit would give parents 15-hundred dollars for each child five and older, up to three-thousand dollars. Parents would also get five-thousand dollars for each child under age five, up to 12-thousand five-hundred dollars.

Democrats say parents with no taxable income would be able to receive the credits because they are considered refundable.
