(Minneapolis, MN) -- Radon testing during home purchases dropped by nearly 40-percent last year.

The Minnesota Department of Health says the practice helps find and reduce gas, linked to causing cancer.

The state says nearly 20-thousand radon tests were reported in 2022, more than 30-thousand less than 2020.

It is unclear why the drop-off has taken place, though some officials believe COVID-19 may play a factor, as well as staffing shortages.
