Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota lays off employees

(St. Paul, MN) -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota has laid off approximately 80 employees.

The layoffs were officially announced Thursday.

The nonprofit says the job cuts were necessary to put the company "in the best position" to achieve its strategic goals.

The company's latest headcount included about three-thousand staffers.
