(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota Safety Council is urging everyone to pay attention on the roadways in an effort to reduce traffic related accidents, injuries, and deaths.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and private and state agencies are urging for caution on the roadways and to pay attention to the highway-ahead of you. The North Dakota Safety Council and North Dakota's Vision Zero are partnering to spread awareness of the high number of traffic accidents on the roads in recent years. An estimated 3,000 people died nationwide in crashes where distractions played a part, with North Dakota seeing 1,027 distracted driving violations in 2021. Experts ask you to keep your eyes on the road, hands on the wheel, and attention away from your phone and other distracters.

"We encourage every North Dakotan to use April as a time to double down on their commitment to driving distraction-free. Distracted driving is a risk that will affect your family and your friends. Take the time to value people's lives. Drive distraction-free," says Chuck Clairmont, Executive Director of the North Dakota Safety Council.
