City of Minneapolis pays $9M settlement in cases related to former officer Derek Chauvin

(Minneapolis, MN)  -- Two residents will receive about $9 million from the City of Minneapolis after they claimed Derek Chauvin kneeled on their necks while detaining them in 2017.

Floyd was convicted of killing George Floyd after kneeling on his neck in 2020.

The city council unanimously approved the settlements Thursday.

John Pope will receive $7.5 million and Zoya Code will receive about $1.4 million.

In Pope's case, Chauvin pleaded guilty to the charges against him in December 2021.
