(Warroad, MN) --  Nine people are detained, seven who were in the United States illegally, following a call for rescue outside of Warroad this morning.

A spokesperson from the U.S Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) is confirming to WDAY Radio they responded to reports of a group of people in distress at around 4:50 a.m this morning. The CBP spokesperson says they were notified by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Canada, who received a phone call from one of the members within the group detailing their situation. The nine individuals were found in a flooded bog west of Warroad, and were immediately given medical care due to cold weather exposure both on the scene and at regional medical facilities as needed.

The CBP spokesperson says seven of the nine people in the group entered the United States illegally and did not have documents to prove they could be legally present in the country. The people are currently being detained at a U.S Border Patrol Station for further processing.

The incident is still under investigation by the CBP.
