(Bismarck, ND) -- Governor Doug Burgum has signed a bill that will ban doctors from providing gender-affirming care to transgender minors in North Dakota.
The newly signed bill makes it a felony to perform sex-reassignment surgery on those under age 18.
Prescribing hormone treatment or puberty blockers to transgender minors will be a misdemeanor.
LGBTQ advocates say the move will raise the risk of suicide, mental health issues, and drug use among trans youth.
