(Bismarck, ND) -- The Manitoba Health Coalition in Canada is calling to end the province's contract with Sanford Health's facility in Fargo due to North Dakota's recently signed anti-abortion laws.

The coalition says that Manitoba should no longer consider North Dakota a safe space for Canadian residents to receive care, and that jurisdictions that choose to attack and limit rights "should not receive contracts from the provincial government,", according to a statement. In the wake of the decision, the Manitoba Government is also allowing all residents and non-residents access to abortion services within the province, but must be paid for out-of-pocket or through private insurance.

“Gender-affirming care and abortion are health care services, not politics,” said Thomas Linner, Manitoba Health Coalition Provincial Director. “Everyone deserves to live with dignity, and to access the medical care they need without being subject to fear, hatred and discrimination.”
