(Bismarck, ND) --For the first time, a Native American will hold a leadership position in the North Dakota legislature.

Representative Jayme Davis of Rolette starts today as the Chair of the Democratic-Nonpartisan League caucus. Davis is a member of The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, and replaces Fargo Rep. Gretchen Dovervich, who has led the caucus since 2018.

As a House member last year, Davis led the passage of a law that codified the Federal Indian Child Welfare Act into North Dakota State Law.
