Minnesota Governor Tim Walz sings automatic voter registration bill

(Fargo, ND) -- Minnesota Governor Tim Walz Friday signed the "Democracy for the People Act" which allows for automatic voter registration.

"What we're doing here matters. It matters to Minnesotans and frankly it matters to folks who are watching what's happening in state's right now," said the bill's author, DFL Democrat Representative Emma Greenman.

Greenman says the bill is aimed at expanding access to the polls.

The act also allows 16-and-17-year olds to pre-register to vote and creates a permanent absentee voter list that will automatically send people who sign up a ballot each election.
