Minnesota State Senator Mark Johnson: state government "grew by 40%"

(Fargo, ND) -- Minnesota Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson says the size of state government in Minnesota will grow by 40 percent as a result of the new budget just signed by Governor Tim Walz.

"So we went from a $50, $52 billion budget to over $72 billion budget in 5 months," said Johnson.

Walz signed the historic budget package Wednesday.

During the ceremony, the governor lauded DFL efforts to codify access to abortion services, and passing a bill deeming Minnesota a "trans refuge state".

Walz also highlighted the bill mandating the state's utilities transition to 100 percent carbon-free energy by 2040.

State Senator Johnson says the DFL legislation is the "most extreme and most partisan" the state has ever seen.
