(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signing several bills into law this morning.

One of the new laws includes the high-profile Hospital Merger requirement legislation that allows the state's Attorney General to oversee the Sanford health and Fairview health merger; but also bills that bans nonconsensual deep fake images, gives more funds to nursing homes, and establishes workplace safety requirements in hospitals. A total of nine bills were signed.

Another high-profile bill expected to be signed today will legalize recreational marijuana in the state. That bill passed the Senate after making its way through thirteen committees, numerous hearings, and a conference committee. Lawmakers agreed on a 10% tax rate on cannabis products sold in the state. Walz is scheduled to attend a bill-signing ceremony this afternoon. The law would take effect on August 1st.
