Minnesota House POCI Caucus draws attention to white supremacy while touting legislative accomplishments

(Fargo, ND) -- Members of the Minnesota House and Senate People of Color and Indigenous Caucus say "dismantling white supremacy is essential to creating a more just and equitable society".

"When we talk about structural racism we talk about the way that systems are set up that are really not meant to uplift people who don't come from monied classes," said Representative and caucus co-chair Esther Agbaje.

Agbaje commented on what she and her colleagues describe as DFL legislative accomplishments during the session just completed.

In a press release caucus members say they "have fought hard this legislative session to pass bills into laws that address systemic racism and promote racial equity."

"You know I really think about how this session we set out to really ensure that we were doing what people wanted us to do and I think by the end of the session we did that." said Agbaje.

Some of the bills touted by Agbaje and her caucus colleagues include expanded ethnic studies curriculum in public schools, the legalization of recreational cannabis. and expanded access to healthcare for undocumented immigrants.

Agbaje appeared on WDAY Mid Day on AM 970 and FM 93.1.
