(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota Highway Patrol says distracted driving is the main cause of vehicle crashes involving farm equipment.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says distracted driving is the main cause of vehicle crashes involving farm equipment. Troopers say distracted drivers combined with the slow movement of farm equipment can cause drivers to misjudge their distance and speed, resulting in crashes. Most highways in North Dakota have a speed limit of up to 70mph, while farm machinery travels at around 35-40mph.

According to enforcement data, there were 44 crashes involving farm equipment in North Dakota in 2021 alone.
