Otter Tail County Sheriff: Boy who died on Lake Six struck by boat while tubing

(Fargo, ND) -- UPDATE: The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim as 13-year-old Benjamin Rennie from Andover and Coon Rapids areas. The North Central Camp Cherith employee who was piloting the boat is identified as Meghan Westra. 


The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office has released additional information related to the death of a boy on Lake Six Thursday afternoon.

Sheriff Reed Reinbold says the boy and another juvenile were riding on an inner tube being pulled by a boat operated by an employee who works for North Central Camp Cherith. 

The juveniles fell off the tube and one male was accidentally struck by the boat as people in the boat were attempting to pick him up. 

Life-saving measures were unsuccessful and the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

No alcohol use is suspected, and criminal charges are not anticipated. 

Both juveniles were wearing flotation devices. 

The sheriff says the investigation is ongoing. 

Sheriff Reinbold also says the names of the people involved in the accident will be released Friday afternoon.
