(Bismarck, ND) -- Supporters working to ban North Dakota communities from levying property taxes now have a year to gather the required number of signatures to get the proposal before the voters.

Former state legislator Rick Becker is spearheading the effort and his ballot petition was approved last week by the secretary of state's office. Becker and supporters have one year to collect 31,165 signatures to get the issue on the ballot.
