American Crystal Sugar fined for violating wastewater regulations

(Fargo, ND) -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is fining American Crystal Sugar for violating industrial wastewater regulations last year at its Crookston and East Grand Forks facilities.

The agency says the violations impacted the Red Lake River and Red River of the North.

The Crookston facility released wastewater without permission on four occasions between January, 2021 and May, 2022.

The facility in East Grand Forks violated effluent limits on six occasions between July and December, 2022.

The company is ordered to pay fines totaling more than $26 thousand.
