(Rothsay, MN) -- A stretch of I-94 is closed in Minnesota due to the need for emergency repairs on the road's shoulder.

The closure was announced on the Minnesota Department of Transportation's social media account and can be seen on the MN DOT's live road map. The closure impacts westbound travel starting about 3-miles west of Fergus Falls and stretches approximately 17 miles to Rothsay. An immediate reason for the closure is unknown at this time,  but a pavement project is also underway in the closed stretch of road.

MN DOT authorities say once westbound I-94 reopens, it will be temporarily reduced to one lane.
