Devils Lake woman dies in Benson County crash

(BENSON COUNTY) — A 73-year-old Devils Lake woman is dead following a crash in Benson County.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2010 Mercury Milan was westbound on US Highway 2 when, at an unknown time near mile marker 221, the Mercury ran off the roadway to the right, entered the north ditch, struck an approach, vaulted, rolled onto its roof and came to rest in a grove of trees.

Law enforcement received a report of an overdue motorist earlier Tuesday. At 1:33 p.m., the Mercury was discovered by law enforcement, and the driver was pronounced dead on scene.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol was assisted by Benson County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Lake Region UAS Team and the Benson County Coroner’s Office.

The crash happened approximately nine miles east of Rugby.
