Minnesota GOP says barring Trump from ballot would damage the constitution

(St. Paul, MN)  --  The Minnesota Republican Party is against barring former President Trump from the ballot.

The state GOP filed a petition with the state Supreme Court yesterday claiming that such an action would cut away party members' constitutional rights.

The petition is in response to an earlier petition filed by the national nonprofit Free Speech for People that sought to bar Trump from the ballot because of his alleged role in the demonstration at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The Minnesota high court has already recognized the need for a swift hearing, scheduling oral arguments on November 2.
