(MINNEAPOLIS, MINN) – A North Dakota native is speaking out after the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation this week announced they would no longer use Stage West Entertainment as their production company for the upcoming Medora Musical. The Foundation announced RWS Global will begin working on the 2024 Medora Musical in October.

Kat Perkins, a Scranton, North Dakota, native, was a senior in high school when she auditioned for the Medora Musical. She made the show and was a Burning Hills singer for five years.

She was disappointed when she heard the news that the Foundation was moving on from Stage West.

“I got to work closely with Stage West Entertainment, the former producer of the show,” Perkins said. “So the news about ousting a family-owned business made me sick.”

After the announcement, Perkins announced she was cutting ties between Medora and her non-profit Rising Star Foundation.

“It became very apparent, even in the last couple of years, that my values a as family-owned and run foundation, the Rising Star Foundation, were not aligning with what they are moving toward in Medora with big corporation,” she said. “I honestly started to feel not welcome there.”

Perkins said the move “will elevate my foundation and my music camp to move it to a more central location.”

A new location for the Rising Star Foundation will be announced in the future, Perkins said.
