Deer-related crashes on decline in Minnesota: experts unsure why

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Deer-related car crashes are becoming less common on Minnesota roadways, but experts aren't exactly sure why.

November is the peak month for deer-related collisions in the state.

The Department of Natural Resources says the rate of deer-related crashes in November reached a ten-year low in 2022.

Rates are also lower compared to neighboring states.

The senior vice president of HLDI told CBS Minnesota that the reason is a "real head-scratcher."

He said it could be due to changes in commuting patterns since more people work from home or it could have something to do with new automatic break systems and better headlights.

"Time will tell," he added.
