North Dakota Legislature to convene in special session beginning Monday

(Bismarck, ND) – The special session of the North Dakota Legislature will convene Monday morning at the State Capitol in Bismarck.

Governor Doug Burgum called the special session to address the state’s 2023-2025 appropriations bill for the Office of Management and Budget. The issue at stake stems from the North Dakota’s late September Supreme Court opinion voiding the bill, citing the state Constitution’s single-subject rule.

Additionally, Burgum worked with legislative leaders and other lawmakers to propose $91 million in income tax relief, which would be supported by excess revenue from the 2021-23 budget, which ended with a general fund ending balance in excess of $1.488 billion.

The Governor will deliver the State of the State Address at 9:15 a.m. in House chambers, marking the beginning of the special session.
