Several vehicles destroyed in semi-truck fire east of Bismarck

(Stanley, ND) -- Multiple vehicle are a total loss after a semi hauling cars burst into flames on I-94 east of Bismarck.

The fires happened near Sterling Thursday when the semi-truck driver began hearing strange noises coming from the truck's engine compartment, prompting him to pull over. Flames flared from under the hood of the truck, and the driver's attempts to put out the fire were unsuccessful. The fire had engulfed the trailer by the time fire crews arrived. Three of the nine vehicles on the semi were completely destroyed. 

No injuries were reported from the incident. Westbound traffic on I-94 were diverted for about an hour after the initial fire.
