Local, State, and Federal leaders celebrate completion of first major structure for FM-Diversion

(Fargo, ND) -- Several local, state, and federal leaders are celebrating the completion of a major portion of the F-M Diversion. 

The finished Diversion Inlet Structure in Horace marks one of the three major structures that need to be completed along the Southern Embankment, with the Wild Rice River Structure also nearing the end of construction and the Red River Structure just starting to be built. Once completed, the project will provide flood protection to more than 260,000 people in the F-M metro. 

"This has been a dream for the last 10 years, "said Tim Mahoney, Fargo's Mayor and Metro Flood Diversion Authority Chairman, "Just to see a structure is fantastic and then when you see it, it's massive."

A plaque was also dedicated to several partners involved in the project; including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,The City of Fargo, The City of Moorhead, The Metro Flood Diversion Authority, and Ames Construction, Inc. 

Senator John Hoeven (R-ND) spoke at the celebration, and senators Tina Smith (D-MN), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Kevin Cramer (R-ND) had prepared statements spoken by office staff and representatives. Also in attendance was Michael L. Conner, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works,
