Bird Flu spreads to more Minnesota turkey farms in October

(Fargo, ND)  --  UPDATE: Michael Crusan, a representative for the Minnesota Board of Animal Health says 330,256 birds have been depopulated between October 11th and October 25th. He says "only a few dozen" weren’t turkey.

INITIAL REPORT:

Bird flu continues to spread to more Minnesota turkey farms.

The flu surfaced in early October in Meeker County.

Now cases have been confirmed at turkey farms in Blue Earth, Becker, Kandiyohi, and Redwood counties.

The Minnesota Board of Animal Health says more than 100 thousand birds were killed to prevent further spread.

WDAY Radio is seeking further clarification from the state board to confirm if the number of birds killed only refers to the number of birds put down so far this month alone.
