Executive director of North Dakota Republican Party resigns

(Bismarck, ND) -- Republican Party Chairwoman Sandi Sanford has confirmed to WDAY Radio Now that recently-appointed North Dakota Republican Party Executive Director David Roetman resigned Monday, effective immediately.

Roetman was named the NDGOP's Executive Director last Monday.

Roetman provided a written statement to WDAY Radio Now.

“I am a man who stands by his words. I invite everyone to judge them for themselves. I do think this was an unnecessary distraction for the Party, and that I help the party best by taking a different path," said Roetman.

Roetman's resignation follows recent reports about some posts to his social media accounts that some observers perceived as controversial.

Sanford says the Republican Party wishes Roetman the best.

She says the party will immediately begin the process of searching for its next executive director.

“It’s a minor setback," Sanford said. “It will not deter us from effectively SERVING the good people of North Dakota.”
