(Grand Forks, ND) -- 3,552 votes were cast in a special election that centered on raising the sales tax by .75% in Grand Forks.

The measure passed with a 66% approval from voters. The sales tax was set to end in 2029, but now will be used to maintain the Alerus Center and also a new Altru Sports Complex. That sports complex will include indoor turf, aquatics, and a court facility.

The complex would be supported through private funding and the sales tax extension, and will be located south of the Alerus Center.
