(Plankinton, SD) -- A United States Senate candidate from North Dakota, along with her family, is safe after a car accident over the weekend in Aurora County, South Dakota.

Katrina Christiansen says she and her family were involved in a crash as another car was attempting to pass a semi, in turn hitting their vehicle.

"We are all okay because of the volunteer Plankinton Fire & Rescue's efforts," Christiansen said in a Facebook post. "These folks represent the courage and generosity that makes our country exceptional. My family is so thankful for their dedication to helping people in the worst moments."
