International Ice Hockey Federation mandates neck guards

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  The International Ice Hockey Federation is making neck guards mandatory.

This comes after the tragic death of Adam Johnson, a hockey player from Minnesota.

Johnson died in October after another player's skate slashed his neck during a game in England.

The International Ice Hockey Federation says neck guards will now be required for players at all levels based on a recommendation from its Medical Committee.

There's no exact date the mandate will go into effect for the senior categories.

The IIHF says that depends on "the supply situation."
