(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota is a step closer to adopting a new state seal.

The State Emblems Redesign Commission approved a design that features a loon taking flight from a lake. It was the only design of five finalists to incorporate Minnesota's state bird. The commission may make some changes, including possibly removing the state motto.

Any changes will be submitted by January 1st. You can read more about the proposed state flag and seal designs by clicking here
