Federal government will tax Minnesota rebate checks

(Undated)  --  Minnesota officials don't plan to tax state rebate checks, but the IRS will.

The federal government determined the checks are considered federally taxable income.

The tax on the checks could cost between 26 dollars and 286 dollars, depending on a household's income and how much they received in rebates.

The state now plans to send a form to all rebate recipients to use when filing their federal individual income tax return next year.
