North Dakota law enforcement community mourns loss of Mercer County Sheriff's deputy

(Bismarck, ND)  --  Police agencies across the state are mourning the loss of a Mercer County Sheriff's deputy.

Paul Martin was killed in the line of duty Wednesday when he was struck by his own patrol car.

The car was hit by a stolen SUV driven by the son of North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer.

Martin is the second North Dakota law enforcement officer killed this year after Jake Wallin was shot and killed in Fargo in July.

The Officer Down Memorial Page cites 62 line of duty deaths in North Dakota history.
