(12:10 p.m.) -- I-29 between Fargo and the Canadian Border is closed, as high winds and snowfall cause poor road conditions along the eastern edge of North Dakota.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says condition along I-29 are dangerous, as blowing snow has caused low visibility conditions. Several vehicles have also crashed along the road.

Officials say the road closure will allow crews to clear the interstate of snow piles faster.

(Fargo, ND) -- Drivers are facing an elevated risk of high winds while driving across North Dakota.

State officials issued travel advisories across several counties in northeast North Dakota, as high winds and snow totals around 1-3 inches across the Red River Valley are expected. Highway Patrol officials say an order restricting travel for high-profile, long-load type and permitted over-dimensional vehicles remains in effect statewide for as long as windy conditions persist.  Authorities say similar federal restrictions are currently in place as high-wind conditions persist across the state.
