(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota's population has increased this year.

A U.S. census report released Tuesday says the number of people living in the state increased by more than 23,000 people between July 2022 and July 2023. That's the biggest increase since before the arrival of Covid-19 . Researchers say the increase was caused by migration patterns and fewer deaths, when compared to the last two years.

This is in contrast to Minnesota losing 4,000 people in 2022. The growth rate in 2023 is also slower compared to the national rate, with the state seeing 0.4% growth compared to the nationwide average of 0.5%.
