North Dakota's unemployment rate ties with Maryland with the lowest in the country

(Bismarck, ND) -- North Dakota's unemployment numbers increased slightly in December of 2023 compared to November.

Jobs Service North Dakota says the Non-Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment rate in December is an estimated 1.7% of state residents, compared to 1.4% in November. That is a 22.5% increase, or an estimated 1,312 people. However, Jobs Service ND says the unemployment rates typically increase in the November to December time period. Comparing December of 2022 to 2023, it dropped from 2.0% to 1.7%, an estimated 15% drop in unemployment numbers during the time period.

Additionally, North Dakota tied with Maryland with the lowest unemployment rates across the country in 2023.

The national unemployment rate of 3.5% in December.
