(St. Paul, MN) -- The Justice Department is charging an Iranian national and two members of the Hells Angels with hatching a plot to kill two people in Maryland.

An indictment unsealed yesterday in Minnesota accuses a suspected Iranian drug smuggler of recruiting two Canadians to carry out a murder-for-hire scheme. The charges were filed in Minnesota because one of the suspects was living illegally in the state at the time the plot was developed. The Iranian charged in the conspiracy is accused of running a criminal network that assists the Iranian government in planning and executing assassinations and kidnappings.

Investigators say the targets were Iranian dissidents who lived in Maryland at the time the murders were being planned.
