Unusually warm weather breaking records in North Dakota

(Bismarck, ND) -- Unusually warm weather is breaking records in North Dakota.

The cities of Bismarck, Dickinson, Minot, and Jamestown all set high temperature records on Wednesday, with a high of 62 degrees in Dickinson.

Temperatures in Bismarck reached 55 degrees, while a high of 57 was recorded in Minot, shattering previous records set in both cities back in the 1930s.

According to the National Weather Service, a specific kind of weather pattern called an "Omega Block" is to blame.

This type of pattern tends to block winter storm systems as they approach the region.
