North Dakota health officials warn of possible Hepatitis A exposure in Grand Forks

(Grand Forks, ND) — North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) officials are warning the public of the potential for exposure to Hepatitis A in the Grand Forks area, following the confirmed case in a food worker.

In a news release Friday, HHS said no additional cases have been identified, but individuals who ate at the University of North Dakota’s Memorial Union Chick-Fil-A could have been exposed to Hepatitis A.

The following dates and times are when the exposure may have taken place: January 15 between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., January 16 between 11 a.m. and 2:15 p.m., January 17 between 5 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., January 22 between 5 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., January 23 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., January 24 between 5 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., January 26 between 5 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., February 4 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., February 6 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and February 7 between 5 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.

Officials say cases can happen in connection to eating contaminated food or drink, person-to-person contact or from other high-risk exposures, and it can take about 15 to 50 days after being exposed to develop symptoms.

Grand Forks Public Health will host a free Hepatitis A vaccine clinic for exposed persons on Sunday at the Memorial Union’s Sall Ballroom.
