(Bismarck, ND) -- Senator John Hoeven has given an update on the fate of the wild horses in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which is still up in the air.

He says based on support from Congress and ongoing negotiations, he believes the park will keep the horses. However, Senator Hoeven adds that if that isn't the case, he's behind legislation that would keep the animals where they are by prohibiting the park from using funding that would go toward removing the horses.

A final decision on the matter is expected next month.
